Dili, 02 July 2024 (Média Democracia) – Madalena Soares de Oliveira, 32 years old from the municipality of Viqueque, post-administrative of Ossu, currently lives in the Bairo-Pite tribe, sub-village 5 de Outubru. Every day she always runs a small business on the side of the road to earn some money to meet her daily needs.

According to the trader, Madalena Soares de Oliveira, she is currently opening a small business on the side of the road to earn some money to meet her daily needs and to pay for her younger siblings’ studies.

“The aim of selling goods such as kerosene, cigarettes, credit, including pop ice, is to meet my family’s needs. In addition, it is also to support my younger siblings’ studies when needed, because the goods I sell every day, the income I get is $10.00 to $15.00, but also depending on the situation such as rain, sometimes it only sells for $5.00 because of the rainy situation and there are also many people who also doing business on the sidewalk because of necessity.” Madalena said

She continued, to sell in the morning she had to help her older sister first with the housework, then at 09.00 she could sell, but by morning her younger siblings had already taken goods to the business place.

“The money used to run this small business is supported by the help of my brothers and sisters including involvement in the Moris Rasik (MR) group, the money I credit amounts to $300.00, therefore I have to try hard to earn income, that way I can deposit the money.” She said

To further explained that as long as Madalena carries out her daily business activities on the side of the road and even though there are many people who do this business, this is not a problem for her because through her perseverance everyone can earn money, even though the money she earns is not large, she is grateful and keep trying, so one day she will be successful.
