Dili, 22 May 2022 (TVDJ) – The President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste (RDTL), José Ramos-Horta, on Sunday, 19 May 2024, decorated a necklace ordered by the Timor-Leste medal to UNICEF Representative, Bilal Aurang Zeb Durrani, to receive and acknowledge his great service in contributing to Timor-Leste
According to the President of the Republic that UNICEF provided great support to the Government of Timor-Leste during the COVID-19 vaccination, having reached 90% of the eligible population through facilitation and delivering vaccines in a timely manner, establishing a cold chain system, training for health professionals, and running companies across the country on Risk Communication and Engagement Commentary (RCCE).
During the inundation in April, UNICEF held health consultations with a total of 4,342 liters of clean water provided by 44 million liters from 229 clean water tanks, 170 temporary toilets, and 13 child-friendly places, benefiting more than 1,600 children in the evacuation center and 2,409 community children who were affected by inundation.
“We give honor to Bilal Durrani because he has worked hard for three years with UNICEF, UNICEF as one of the ONU institutions that is doing great work in Timor-Leste. When we pay tribute to UNICEF, we also pay tribute to the entire ONU system.” Said the President of the Republic.
UNICEF also continues to work with the government to improve sustainable programs to achieve quality outcomes for children in the areas of health, nutrition, water and sanitation, social protection, child protection and education, as a result of UNICEF’s advocacy.
Representative Durrani expressed his appreciation for the collective efforts of UNICEF employees, past and present, whose compromise and dedication to children in Timor-Leste, received high-level recognition at UNICEF.
“With honor and gratitude for receiving this prestigious award on behalf of UNICEF which is a witness to the collaboration between UNICEF and the Government of Timor-Leste, it is a privilege and pride because I have received a meaningful mandate in Timor-Leste, while supporting President Horta in conveying his noble vision for Timor-Leste means that no babies die when they were born, and every child is healthy, well, educated and safe.” Durrani said
Through his great contribution to Timor-Leste in the last three years. Higher national awards were given to those who show extraordinary work and achievements for the development of the country
To further explained that, the “Orden Timor-Leste” (Kondekorasaun Orden Timor-Leste) which was established by the government as a special recognition for individuals, who have professional or social activities, have made a significant contribution to the benefits of Timor-Leste, Timorese and Humanity.
