Seatou Destroys 78 Vegetable Selling Place At Former Becora Market

Dili, May 23, 2024 (TVDJ) – On Wednesday, SEATOU held a clean-up activity at the former Becora Market to see the spaces occupied by traders from the main road to the inside so that transportation can move freely.

SEATOU, Germano Santa Brites Dias said that today he carried out clean-up activities at the Becora market to see that the public space in front of there would be all demolished to be arranged properly, leveling the land and also moving damaged cars to Tibar.

“All the sand will be placed here to level the road so that traders selling outside can come inside. Currently we are also deploying large cars from the Ministry of State to take all the damaged cars parked in the market area to be moved to Tibar, including junk.” Said the Secretary of State

He added that data collection had been carried out from the merchandise management team, the first one took 78 houses, the second data took almost 300 more inside the market, when the data was entered the Dili municipality the Government would provide notification to all people living in that area.

“Notification will be given to the public when the road that comes in is flat, the Ministry of Public Works has designed it and data collection has also been completed, notification will be given this year, asking the people who live inside to prepare themselves first, for those who already have other places can move to that place.” He continued

However, SEATOU asked the public, especially residents in Dili who occupy sidewalks and drains such as in Caicoli, Mascarinhas, Quintal-Bo’ot, Quintal-Ki’ik, to dismantle it themselves before they bring the machine to be dismantled. When we don’t listen to each other, then the best way is to destroy it, because SEATOU works according to the law to improve the City, everyone must follow the law, because it gives us jobs.

As a community representative, Adino Mascarinhas said that the government needs to dialogue with the community before carrying out the demolition. The community cooperates with the government but must create conditions first because the community lives in the market.

“The state needs to have a dialogue with the people because they are citizens of this country. The people always say that everyone cooperates with the government but they need to create conditions and dialogue first, otherwise it means the state never considers the people’s cries, we can say that this politics is unfair.” Said Adinu at Becoca market

He added that information from the SEATOU team and the merchandise management team was only on the highway, at least carrying out dialogue to ask about community needs, so they had to have some kind of notification letter to cooperate with the State. This government only comes with diggers and destroys everything and puts pressure on people’s psychology, especially the mentality of parents and children.
