Dili, June 25, 2024 (Média Democracia) – Deputy Minister of ASEAN affairs, Minister of Internal and Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with Universidade Nacional Timor Lorosa’e held an academic conference with the theme “Capacity and Competitiveness of the National Private Sector to Prepare Timor-Leste’s Accession to the ASEAN Market”.
In an interview with the Deputy Minister of ASEAN affairs and Minister of Internal, Milena da Costa Rangel said that the academic conference held today was aimed at disseminating information to academics about the Timor-Leste government’s preparations to become a member of ASEAN and collaborating with the private sector to improve work that is still lacking well so that we can compete in the ASEAN market.
“Currently the Timor-Leste government is still implementing the road map provided by ASEAN for us to apply in every job, and can also improve some jobs that are not good enough based on the ASEAN criteria given to us, to fulfill all the jobs in the ASEAN criteria.” Said the Deputy Minister
In addition, the government is also preparing seven criteria set by ASEAN, before joining ASEAN we must meet the seven ninth government criteria, continue to try and collaborate to improve some jobs that are not good, especially jobs that meet these criteria.
“There are several criteria that have been resolve by the ninth government and have carry out work in accordance with ASEAN’s wishes, because as we know, ASEAN is an organization consisting of ten countries. Therefore, we must prepare these jobs and also prepare the private sector, we must make collaboration in order to join in ASEAN.” Said the Deputy Ministry
On the other hand, the Executive President of the BNCTL Commission, Antonio Fransisco Vitor, said that accession to become an ASEAN member is very important because it can collaborate with countries through products that we will compete with in the ASEAN market so that it can provide benefits for our country. .
“Before joining ASEAN, we must prepare work and prepare work capacity and full participation from the private sectors in order to collaborate with the government so that it can improve performance to meet existing criteria.” Said the Executive President of the BNCTL Commission
Therefore, our ninth government must work hard and prepare better to become a member of ASEAN, because the requirements given by ASEAN are very tough and the ninth government needs to work hard to fulfill these requirements.
